A stain removal guide for when you work in housekeeping
A stain removal guide is handy when you need to use it.
Often in laundry, you will have to remove stains from clothes before you wash them.
These days there are specialized chemicals available for specific purposes. All the chemicals are very effective against stain removal.
However back in the day when these chemicals were not available, we used to use this method below to remove stains.
How to remove various stains?
Stain | Step 1 | Step 2 | Step 3 | Step 4 | Step 5 | Step 6 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Tea/ Coffee | Take Hot water and soak the stain | Once soaked, dab the stain | If the stain persists, use mild detergent from laundry | Scrub with a toothbrush so that the stain does not spread | Dab with fresh water | Let the surface dry |
Chewing Gum | Rub the gum with Ice | Let it freeze | Scrap it off using the dull edge of a knife (even a butter knife would do) | |||
Ink | Take hot water and soak | Once soaked, dab | If the stain persists, use any alcohol based chemical on your trolley or simply get acetone | Dab again carefully as the stain can easily spread over once acetone is used | Dab with fresh water | Let the surface dry |
Nail polish | Use Acetone | Dab again carefully as the stain can easily spread over once acetone is used | Dab with fresh water | Let the surface dry | ||
Make up | Scrap off excess make up using the dull edge of a knife (even a butter knife would do). If it is powder form, vacuum it first. | Dab the stain with Acetone | Dab with fresh warm water | Let the surface dry | ||
Oil | Dry up the oil/grease from the surface with tissues/dry towel duster | Use mild detergent or use the shampoo with hot water to scrub off the stain. | Use a toothbrush and ensure that the fibres are well soaked with the detergent/shampoo | Dab with fresh water | Let the surface dry | |
Food stains | Remove excess curry/food from the surface using the dull edge of a knife. Dry up the oil/grease from the surface with tissues/dry towel duster | Use mild detergent or use the shampoo with hot water to scrub off the stain. Use a toothbrush and ensure that the fibres are well soaked with the detergent/shampoo | Dab with fresh warm water | Let the surface dry | ||
Wine | Blot with tissues/dry duster to remove as much wine as possible | Dab with cold water, if the stain persists, use mild detergent | Clean up the chemicals with fresh cold water | Let the surface dry | ||
Blood | Soak with cold water only as hot water will harden the stain further. (Remember - proteins coagulate with high temperature) | if the stain is fresh, repeated dabbing/blotting with cold water should help. If old then soak with cold water, dab and then apply mild detergent or salt past or hydrogen peroxide. Let this rest for few minutes or half an hour depending on the size and age of stain | Clean up the chemicals with fresh cold water | Let the surface dry |
