Some time guest come in without any form of Guarantee. During those times, we should be careful and take cash during check in to cover the entire bills or take a pre authorisation on credit card
In the previous video, we saw how to use the credit card machine to capture a sale. Today we do have quite a few guest who we will have to take a credit card preauthorisation

During preauthorisation, the money is only blocked from the card for any other use. It is a way of ensuring that the card is good. So the first thing to do, is to calculate how much to block on the card. We must calculate the total bill for the guest based on the rate and the room nights that the guest is staying.
After that, see the menu on the E D C machine. It will have an option for preauthorisation.
Swipe the card and punch the amount. Once the charge slip comes out, see the approval number on the slip and check the correct amount.
Keep the charge slip safe and record the transaction on the Property management system.
Sir, I have blocked Rs. 9500 on your card. This amount is only blocked on the card. We will charge you during your departure.

So the rest of the check in process was similar. The only difference was that we blocked some money on the guest card.
